Kill the Jigger is an initiative of the Rise Up Society (RUS), a Welfare Society registered in Kenya by the Attorney General’s Office (Charity Number 36247). We are committed to eradicating the Jigger menace in Kenya. Our team has been on the ground for over five (5) years running (since 2011), reaching out and touching the lives of people in Western Kenya who are infected with Jiggers and suffering with extreme poverty. Love in action is our philosophy.
Thank you Jim and Rise Up team for coming to treat our students. We are touched by the work you have done at our school.
I was convinced I was bewitched, having been brought up from a polygamous family set up. I had lost my family (wife and children) due to jiggers. RUS tried to help me, but jiggers kept on coming back. RUS repaired my house, but it fell down. They still did not give up on me, and helped with another cemented house with bedding and chairs.
I am now jigger free, and my wife and children are back. My land is tilled and crops are doing so well. In short, my lost life was brought back through RUS. May God bless them and donors. .
I cannot relate the suffering I had with jiggers, how my family suffered. I was not able to provide for them. My fertile land went untilled for many years, and my home was called the ‘hunger den’. My wife ran away leaving me alone, with the jigger infestation. Things were getting worse by day, I wasn’t sure about the next day, as fear had a grip on me especially in the night. But finally RUS came, and now my house and body is jigger free. My wife and children are back and going to school. Now my land is tilled and producing highly. All shame is gone and my path of life is back to normal. Thank you RUS for loving me and coming to rescue me when nobody wanted to touch me.
I knew I was going to die as I helplessly saw jiggers all over my body. No one wanted to stay close by me and those smells made me hate myself. At school I was always lonely, no girl wanted to play with me. Some made fun of my walking style and called me ‘Wabama’ (one with webbed feet). I sometimes cried on my way home. Back at home, my mother got angry at me because I could not fetch water from the river with other girls. Jiggers made my life a living hell, until you came. I want to thank RUS team for coming and treating me, giving me shoes and bedding and disinfecting our home. I am now jigger free, playing and helping my family.
I can now go to school and play with other boys. There’s no more pain in my feet, and I sleep without itching in the night. Thank you Jim and your team for making this possible.
Thank you RUS for visiting me and taking me from the cemetery, where by bones lay, forgotten. I feel I well now, with those nasty jiggers gone. I’m taking care of myself and even those around me can benefit from my services.
Thank you Rise Up for giving me treatment. I can now go to school and study with other children.
I am happy I can now walk without feeling pain on my legs
